KOCHI: The Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, called upon the cooperative sector to invest in health, education and tourism sectors in the State. He underlined the key role played by cooperative banks in Kerala's agriculture. He was speaking after laying foundation for a cooperative training centre under the Ernakulam District Cooperative Bank here on Sunday. He said that the State expected a lot from the cooperative sector, especially from the Ernakulam District Cooperative Bank that had logged significant profits during the last financial year. Mr. Chandy lauded the bank for its initiative in setting up the training centre, the first of its kind in the State. He said that employees should adapt themselves to the changing atmosphere and requirements at the workplace. He said that the State was on the path of development and that the credit-deposit ratio in the State had shown considerable improvement in the recent past. The Minister for Cooperation, M. V. Raghavan, presided over the meeting convened at the headquarters of the Ernakulam District Cooperative Bank in Kakkanad. The Thripunithura MLA, K. Babu, the president of the Kerala State Cooperative Bank, K. R. Aravindakshan and the president of the Thrikkakara Grama Panchayat, M.E. Hassainar, were among those present at the function. The Cooperative Training Centre was aimed at improving the efficiency of cooperative sector employees, said Mr. Monayee, president of the District Cooperative Bank.
