Lok Adalats held

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) jointly organised three Lok Adalats (People's Courts) at N.P. Senior Secondary School on Mandir Marg in the Capital on Sunday.

The Lok Adalats, presided over by the Additional District and Sessions Judges of Delhi, Sunil Gaur and N.K. Gupta, and the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, New Delhi, Ravinder Dudeja, resolved 126 cases to the satisfaction of the complainants.

The Judge of the Delhi High Court and Executive Chairman of DLSA, Justice B.A. Khan, was the chief guest and Justice A.K. Sikri the guest of honour on the occasion.

Since 1999, the DLSA and MTNL have held over 70 such courts and settled majority of the 3,500 cases registered.

Domestic trade

NEW DELHI: The Confederation of All-India Traders (CAIT), an umbrella organisation of the traders of the country, launched a unique nation-wide hunt on Sunday for the three most trade friendly chief ministers and finance ministers of India.

Talking about the objectives of the exercise, the secretary general of CAIT, Praveen Khandelwal, said the aim was to promote and strengthen the domestic trade of the country hit hard by the pro-liberalisation and pro-globalisaion policies of the dispensation.

Collaboration

NEW DELHI: The British Open University (BOU) and the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) have agreed to set up two expert groups to explore possible areas for future collaboration.

The decision was reached at a meeting between the Vice-Chancellor of BOU, Brenda Gourley, and the Vice-Chancellor of IGNOU, H.P. Dikshit, during the former's visit to the university.

The first meeting of the group is scheduled in the first week of July this year.

Tamil bikers stranded

NEW DELHI: Inspired by the Government's plans for increased people-to-people contact, five youngsters from Tamil Nadu who embarked on a motorcycle expedition to Pakistan, now find themselves stranded in the national Capital for want of funds for fuel.

They have already covered around 7,500 km on their five bikes during the past five weeks, spending Rs 1.3 lakh in the process and going up to Wagah border. However, they were not able to cross into Pakistan after being dissuaded due to security considerations.

Film piracy

NEW DELHI: Former wrestling champion and noted actor Dara Singh has appealed to viewers to see films only in cinema halls and not go in for pirated software on cable television or otherwise.

Speaking at the launch of the Film Piracy Eradication Cell in the Capital on Saturday evening, Mr Singh said the industry was today badly afflicted because of the menace of piracy which was eating into its very vitals.
