85,495 children given pulse polio drops

UDUPI: A total of 85,495 children were given pulse polio drops in Udupi district on Sunday.

According to the District Health and Family Welfare Office here, the target for administering pulse polio drops was to 89,135 children.

The total percentage is 96.

In Udupi taluk, 37,919 children were given pulse polio drops as against the target of 39,606.

In Kundapur taluk, 30,940 children were covered as against the target of 32,148. In Karkala taluk, 16,636 children were given pulse polio drops as against the target of 17,381 children. The total percentage in the three taluks is 96.

A total of 671 booths were set up in the district, including mobile units. Poor people living in the of Beedinagudde area of Udupi city did not pay heed to the requests by the officials to give pulse polio drops to their children. However, the tahsildar and other officials convinced them to make use of the campaign.

In Udupi, the pulse polio campaign was inaugurated by the MLC, V.S. Acharya.
