Health camp

CHENNAI: The 249th Narayana Seva camp was held at Vadakkupattu Panchayat Union Elementary School. Seven doctors attended the camp and 219 patients were treated.

Twenty-four cases were referred for Intra Ocular Lens surgeries and 4 for general surgeries.

Pulse Polio campaign

40,874 children under the age of five were immunised under the Pulse Polio campaign in 70 booths at the Ambattur Municipality.

Dr. S. Rajasekharan, Municipal Health Officer, Ambattur, said 296 staff members participated in the camp.

They will go door-to-door on Monday and Tuesday to provide vaccine to the children who were not brought to the booths on Sunday.

`World No Tobacco Day'

Imaigal, a Tamil Health Magazine of the Indian Medical Association, Tamil Nadu, will observe `World No Tobacco Day,' on May 31 at the Deva Neya Pavanar Hall, Central Library, Anna Salai. Chest Physician Dr. C.N. Deiva Nayagam and Pulmonologist Dr. Prasanna Kumar Thomas will deliver lectures.

Slogan competition in English and Tamil

To increase awareness on the hazards of smoking, a slogan competition has been arranged. Slogans in English and Tamil may be sent to the Editor, Imaigal, Deepam Hospital, 327, Muthurangam Road, Tambaram West, Chennai - 600 045 on or before May 26.

Prizes for the best 10 slogans will be given at a function on May 31.

Elders Pharmaceuticals, makers of Nulife, a nicotine supplement chewing gum, will be the co-sponsors.

Summer vocational training

The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Urban Horticulture Development Centre, will conduct a five-day summer vocational training for school-going students from Standard VI to IX.

Students can learn craft works, mushroom cultivation, making of juice, candle, soap powder, cleaning powder, bleaching powder and liquid soap, gardening and painting and bouquet-making.

The training will be conducted between 9.30 a.m. and 1 p.m. from May 16 to 20.

The training fee is Rs. 500 each.
