CHENNAI: Adikesavan, the prime accused in a multi-crore rupees cheating case nabbed by the Central Crime Branch, was detained under the Goondas Act on Sunday.
Detention order
The detention order was served on the accused under judicial custody for allegedly slashing the hand of an Inspector when a police team raided his house on May 2. The Police Commissioner, R. Nataraj, said police have been receiving more complaints against Adikesavan who was arrested on charges of duping several businessmen across the country. So far, the CCB has received complaints indicating that he had cheated about 25 businessmen to the tune of over Rs. 4 crore. Jayaveeran, the personal assistant of Adikesavan, is under police custody till Monday on charges of abetting the accused.
Suicide
An 18-year-old girl from Kosapet hanged herself to death on Saturday, reportedly after being scolded by her mother. Police said Sugandhi, BA student, was upset after her mother scolded her having a tiff with her brother over a game of carrom. The Otteri police are investigating.
Man murdered
A 25-year-old was killed in a drunken brawl near the Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanam on Venkatanarayana Road in T. Nagar on Sunday. Police said Venkatesan, a pavement dweller, hit Chandrasekharan on his head with a club when the victim intervened in a quarrel. Search is on for the accused.
Four detained
The Chetpet police arrested four persons and detained them under Goondas Act on charges of kidnap and assault on Sunday. Police said Vincent (30) from Chetpet was kidnapped and assaulted by Mannu alias Bhupathi, Balaji, Saravanan and Janakiraman on April 28. Meanwhile, the Koyambedu Police arrested two persons in connection with a robbery case, on Sunday. S. Prakasam, of Washermanpet, was allegedly robbed at knifepoint by Ravi and Lokanathan at Koyambedu
