COIMBATORE: More wetgrinder and its accessories manufacturing units here are likely to form consortia this year for marketing and raw material purchase. Under the cluster development programme for these units, implemented by the Small Industries' Service Institute (SISI) and the Coimbatore Wetgrinders and Accessories Manufacturers' Association, three consortia have been formed in 2004-05 for marketing, motor development and arm set manufacturers. The units conducted an exhibition in Indore last year to promote sale of wetgrinders in the Northern States. This year, four more such events are planned. Training sessions on direct exports are proposed to promote exports of these products. Further, the association will approach the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, to develop new models of wetgrinders. "This will help improve the quality of the product as well as its marketability," the official said. Members will also be trained on the importance of standardisation of the product and quality improvement. The standards will be formulated with assistance from various institutes. The website launched as part of the cluster programme has 50 members displaying their products. To promote enquiries through the website, it is planned to provide linkage to related websites. The action plan has been submitted for the approval of the SSI Development Commissioner, the official said.
