Grievances day

The farmers' grievances day will be held at the District Development Council Hall of the Coimbatore Collectorate on May 19 at 10 a.m., according to release from the Collectorate. The meeting will be presided by the Collector, S. Kosalaraman, and the members of the farming community have been requested to take part and voice their grievances.

Detained

The Police Commissioner, Karan Singha, has ordered the detention of Kabeer alias Kabeer Ahemd under the Goonda's Act. The said accused was involved in a number of cases of theft of iron rods, aluminium metal and GI pipes. Meanwhile, the "notorious criminal" resorted to criminal intimidation of a person over the issue of purchasing a car. The Ukkadam Police registered a case on May 2.

MLA's plea

The Singanallur Constituency MLA, K.C. Karunakaran, has urged the railway authorities to expedite the construction of rail-over bridges across Tiruchi Road at Ondipudur and at Valankulam near Ukkadam at the earliest. The legislator has appealed for relaying and widening Tiruchi Road besides putting the Singanallur bus stand into full use.

Liquor seized

The Coimbatore Rural District Police have arrested three persons, including a woman and her daughter, on charge of selling sachets of illicit arrack at Ranga Nagar and at Thennampalayam near Avanashi. The police arrested Palanisamy, a moped rider, and raids based on his confession led to the seizure of 750 litres of arrack packed in sachets and stocked from a storeroom in a farmhouse. The police also raided a house at Thennampalayam and arrested Karuppal and her daughter Selvi and seized 50 litres of arrack.
