Water level

MADURAI: The level at Periyar Dam on Sunday stood at 112.5 feet with an inflow of 130 cusecs and a discharge of 130 cusecs. The Vaigai Dam level was 30.61 feet with an inflow of 93 cusecs and a discharge of 41cusecs. The Periyar combined credit stood at 1,619 mcft.

Deputy Mayor to be elected on May 30

The State Election Commission has directed the Madurai Corporation to conduct the election for the post of Deputy Mayor on May 30 following the demise of T. Chinnasamy, who held the post. A special meeting of the Council would be convened at 9.30 a.m. on that day, according to D. J. Dinakkaren, Commissioner and Election Officer.

Civil Services exam

The Civil Services (Prelims) examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission was held on Sunday. In Madurai district, nearly 10,000 candidates appeared for the all-India examination. Swaran Singh, Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Text Book Corporation, and D. Raajendiran, Collector, inspected the examination centres.

Seva Sangam gesture

Free notebooks and dresses were distributed to poor students, and mango saplings were planted here on Sunday to commemorate the silver jubilee celebrations of Sriman Natana Gopala Nayaki Swamigal Kalvi Seva Sangam.
