Two children killed
by water tanker
According to the police, the accident happened at Jatav Mohalla in Okhla when five-year-old Preeti and her three-year-old brother, Vishal, were killed when they came under a speeding tanker, hired by the Delhi Jal Board. The accident victims were walking behind their father, Om Pal, who was going to fetch water from the tanker when the accident occurred killing both the children on the spot. The tanker driver immediately fled and is yet to be arrested. Furious over the accident, residents of the area staged protest and accused the DJB of failing to provide enough water that was leading to deaths of people on streets.
Two dead in collision
According to police, Kuldeep Singh (52), a resident of Shahbad Daulatpur, along with seven other members of his family was going to his ancestral village at Panipat. However, when their car reached Alipur on GT Karnal Road, it collided with a mini-truck moving along the car. The car was badly damaged in the accident in which Kuldeep and his sister, Karmo (68), were killed on the spot while his six other family members were injured, including his newly-married son who sustained serious injuries. All injured have been admitted in two different hospitals.
Four juveniles arrested for burglary
The police said Manmohan Jain, the complainant, had recently shifted to his new residence at Dwarka from Model Town. But when his wife returned to their previous address over this weekend, she found its lock broken and valuables and cash missing from the almirah. After a complaint was formally lodged on Friday, the police found small footprints during the inspection of the premises pointing towards the involvement of the minors in the theft. The police then mobilised the local staff and informers and subsequently four boys were spotted spending lavishly. When interrogated, they reportedly confessed to the crime and their involvement in yet another case of burglary in the area. The boys divulged that they sold the stolen items to the local scrap dealers at throwaway prices and squandered away the money on food and merry making. As for their modus operandi, the police said before committing the theft they surveyed the abandoned houses in the area and thereafter one of them broke into the house while the others kept vigil outside.
