KOCHI: Organisational elections in 220 booths in the district unit of the Congress have been postponed. There were walkouts and calling off of the meeting by returning officers as the party initiated the first step towards organisational poll. Barring 220 booths, poll process had gone on smoothly in 1,752 booths in the district, said K.P. Dhanapalan, the president of the District Congress Committee. In 75 booths, permission was granted for postponing the elections to Monday. Efforts were made to arrive at a consensus on booth-level functionaries. The poll process was cancelled in 150 booths, as party workers could not reach an agreement regarding the candidates for the post of booth presidents and delegates to block and mandalam committees. In addition to the three key posts, Congress workers are to elect a 15-member booth committee too. The election in Maneed, near Piravom, and Mulanthuruthy were postponed, as conciliatory meetings by party leaders failed. Attempts will be made on Monday to elect office-bearers in all the booths where polls have been postponed. If a consensus could not be reached, they would be elected through voting, Mr. Dhanapalan said.
