HYDERABAD: In a first-of-its-kind bureaucratic reshuffle in the city, heads of all its civic service departments have been replaced at one go. The new MCH Commissioner, Sanjay Jaju, who served as Visakhapatnam Commissioner for a couple of years, when contacted by The Hindu for his reaction, said: "I have done some meaningful work in the port city and hope to replicate the same in Hyderabad too." "Urban planning is one of my favourite subjects," he said. Mr. Jaju, who was involved in organising the famous crochet lace making womenfolk of West Godavari district into a cooperative, is said to be the youngest ever to take over the reins of the MCH.
Memorable: Chitra
The outgoing Commissioner, Chitra Ramachandran, said she was moving out as a contented person having contributed to city's development for more than three years. "Having done my bit for the historic city, I'd consider this one of my most satisfying and memorable stints," she said.
She is credited with development of public parks and recreational facilities in several neighbourhoods in a big way, besides Krishan Kant Park at Yousufguda, Shyamalkunta Park, Jalagam Vengal Rao Park in Banjara Hills and other beautification projects. "The changes in the cityscape are there to be seen for everyone," she said. Enhancement in property tax collection, CRISIL ratings for three successive years, and introduction of GIS were her other major achievements. While talk of Ms. Ramachandran's transfer was doing the rounds for several months, the departure of her HMWSSB counterpart has come as a big surprise. B.P. Acharya served as board Managing Director for about 11 months -- said to be the shortest tenure in its history.
He was instrumental in bringing about several new initiatives in the board, including the popular Dial-a-tanker scheme. Having completed the second stage of Krishna Drinking Water Supply Project in a record time, he had prepared the ground for the project's second phase.
