Tata telephone services dismal Sir, Tata Indicom telephone services in general and STD booths in particular are not working properly for the last one month. Their complaint cell No. 1281 is busy 24 hours a day. There is no response even from the respective managers and fax communications are also not acknowledged. A delegation of STD booth operators recently visited the TATA Telecom office at KLM Estate but the officer concerned was not available. Most of the STD operators are incurring losses due to lack of business as TATA gives 45 second call for mobiles, including TATA mobiles, while BSNL gives 60 seconds to other mobiles and 90 seconds for BSNL mobiles. Mohd. Pasha Miya, Afzalgunj Tata Indicom making false claims Sir, It is disheartening to note that even a reputed Company like Tata Indicom is making false claims of wide networks all over India to lure customers. I am a subscriber to their CDMA mobile service, my number being 024-688-1245. I received their direct mail brochure along with the March bill which claimed that their network is available in 815 towns and cities all over India. It boasted of networks in Gwalior and Jaipur also. Their call centre executive also confirmed the activation of network in the above two cities. During a recent visit to Gwalior, I was shocked to find that their network was not operational. It would be in the fitness of things that Tata Indicom apologise for the inconvenience caused to me for relying on their services. Arjun K. Pamnani, East Marredpally Streamline MMTS bus services Sir, The response to MMTS link bus service appears to be poor. Problem to link both the services has not been properly analysed. The MMTS buses cannot serve each local train punctually and thus cannot be dependable. At best, they can serve only stations like Hi-tech city where the MMTS station is far from the hi-tech hub. The authorities should divert regular bus services via the nearest MMTS rail stations wherever feasible. P. Vasudeva Rao, Boudhanagar Need for water harvesting Sir, Many parts of the city and its outskirts face water problem. The ground water source is poor due to rocky surface. In summer the situation is acute. Though measures are being taken to augment the water supply, none of the civic bodies are taking initiative to harvest rainwater. People are buying water but are showing least interest to harvest rainwater. Apart from Government's initiative, a major campaign must be taken up to create an awareness among people on the need for rainwater harvesting. Amar Pattanaik, Hyderabad MCH needs to make `sweeping' changes Sir, The roads in the twin cities are swept with short brooms, raising a lot of dust all around. Apart from causing serious dust pollution, the workforce run the risk of reparatory ailments and back pain. Like in north coastal Andhra, the MCH sweepers should use reed-type brooms with long handles, which would enable them to do the job more efficiently while standing and without churning dust. It is high time the Corporation authorities introduce these long-handle brooms as an anti-dust pollution measure benefiting the citizens and the sweeping staff as well. M.I. Suryanarayana, Punjagutta Ensure proper drainage system Sir, The Kukatpally Municipality had sanctioned Rs.10 lakhs for the modernisation of the underground drainage system for Bharathnagar Colony in 2004. Work was completed by laying two lines connecting the existing septic tank. One drain was connected but the other line was left incomplete. The second line was half dug and left as some buildings and shops came in between the septic tank and the drain line. This is the result of poor planning and faulty design. Moreover, there is some difference between the levels of individual toilets and the main drain and each house owner has to spend about Rs.1,500 to connect their drainage line to the main line. The authorities must ensure that all lines are connected to the main drain. Subba Rao Paruchuri, Bharatnagar Colony Bus services introduced Sir, Apropos the letter seeking buses from Borabanda to Patancheru connecting Miyapur, Kukatpally, BHEL. Two services with 32 single trips were introduced recently with frequency of 40 minutes with Route No. 223F plying between Borabanda and Lingampally. C. Panduranga Murthy, Regional Manager, Hyderabad City Region
