Councillors criticised

KOCHIKOCHIKOCHIKOCHITHIRUVANANTHAPURAMTH: The UDF floor leader in the Corporation Council, D. Sudarshanan, has alleged that the councillors who resigned from the UDF to join the National Congress(I) had left the citizens who elected them in the lurch.

In a release here, he said the work under the various plan projects had already started and the effort was to complete these before the elections. The councillors had quit their posts when their services were needed most and they would have to pay a heavy cost for their action, Mr. Sudarshanan said. — Special Correspondent

Demand to extend deadline

KOCHIKOCHIKOCHIKOCHITHIRUVANANTHAPURAMTH: The District Planning Committee (DPC) has urged the Government to extend the deadline for approving the plan projects of the Local Self-Government Institutions (LSGIs).

The last date for approving the projects of the grama panchayats expired on May 10. Of the 78 panchayats in the district, only 14 have submitted their projects for clearance, the District Panchayat president, Sasikala Sivasankar, who chaired the DPC meeting at the Collectorate said.

The block-level examination of the projects is progressing. Certain panchayats have not submitted their projects to the block development officers. The committee has cleared the projects of Kallikadu; Chengal; Parassala; Panavoor; Kadakkavoor; Anchuthengu; Chirayinkeezh; Cherunniyoor and Elakamon panchayats. The projects of Kottukal; Venganoor; Edava; Ottur and Poovar panchayats have been submitted for clearance, Ms. Sivasankar said.

Delay in redeploying PWD staff has affected project preparation. The Government should give directions on the basis of the memoranda submitted by the LSGIs, Ms. Sivasankar said. — Staff Reporter

KOCHIKOCHIKOCHIKOCHITHIRUVANANTHAPURAMTH: The Kerala Civil Supplies Officers Association has urged the Minister for Civil Supplies, Adoor Prakash, to solve the problems facing the Public Distribution System. A meeting of the secretariat of the association under the chairmanship of the president, P. Sivasankaran, said that posts of the district supplies officers are vacant in seven districts. — Staff Reporter

Mohan Kumar, MLA, the residents' associations in Kudapanakunnu and Peroorkada will hold a meeting at Concordia School, near the Kudapanakunnu panchayat office, at 5 p.m. on Monday to discuss the foundation stone laying ceremony of the proposed civil station at Kudapanakunnu on May 18. — Staff Reporter
