Maoist killed in encounter

ANANTAPUR:
A member of Maddileru platoon of CPI (Maoist), Hanumantha Reddy alias Diwakar (35), was killed in an encounter with the police between Katnekalva village of Anantapur rural mandal and Bukkacherla of Rapthadu mandal in the wee hours of Monday.
According to the police, Diwakar led the seven-member team which had killed TDP follower, K.M. Sanaullah, on Sunday night. The police launched search operation immediately after the murder and came across the team, which was retreating.
The Maoists first opened fire on the police party and when the latter retaliated. Diwakar died on the spot and others escaped. The police seized a Claymore mine, a bundle of wire, a camera flash, a medical kit, a weapon carrying bag, four detonators and two country-made bombs apart from literature from the encounter site.
