HYDERABAD: The State Government is going ahead with process of identifying farmers for the second round of land distribution. The programme will be reviewed at Joint Collectors' conference here on May 25 and 26, to be inaugurated by the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. The Special Chief Secretary, Revenue, V.P. Jauhari, told The Hindu that the Government hoped that the process of identification of farmers would be completed by June-end. The Government targeted distribution of one lakh acres but the figure could vary like in the first round when 1.54 lakh acres was distributed as against the targeted one lakh acres.
Not easy process: Jauhari
Mr. Jauhari was of the view that identification of land for the second round was not going to be easy as the Government would have to lay its hands on holdings in surplus of the ceiling. This problem was not encountered in the first round as a substantial portion of the land distributed was already in the possession of beneficiaries. The plots were regularised through distribution of pattas on a single day. Mr. Jauhari said the extent of land to be distributed for individual farmers in the second round was not determined. It was five acres dry and two-and-a-half acres wet in the first round but the distribution was not strictly on these lines as the pattern of holding by beneficiaries was of varying degrees. He said the date of distribution was not finalised.
