MADURAI: The Madurai Animal Welfare Association has resolved to implement the Animal Welfare Act provisions and to protect the aged and injured cattle. The association, which met here recently, wanted the authorities concerned to initiate action against those using elephants, monkeys and cattle for seeking alms. Spreading awareness on rabies; ambulance for transporting sick animals; stopping the killing of community dogs for phosphate in rural areas; taking up animal birth control programmes for canines to control their population were some of the other resolutions passed at the meeting.
