Letters to the Editor
The statement by DMK leader M. Karunanidhi that the victory was achieved with the help of money power, by misusing official machinery and contravening the model code of conduct is an insult to the electorate and the election machinery.
By attributing the AIADMK's victory to the misuse of official machinery and money power, Mr. Karunanidhi has pointed an accusing finger at the Election Commission, which monitored the elections very strictly.
That the leaders of the DMK and the PMK do not have the grace to accept defeat is unfortunate. They should refrain from making such irresponsible statements and incurring the displeasure of voters further.
Central paramilitary forces were used to ensure free elections in the two constituencies. Even a special election observer was deputed to oversee the election. The media reported on the day of the election that because of these measures the voter turnout was very high.
