Coimbatore: Raj Randhawa of Delhi Noida Golf Club brought in a score of one over 73 to emerge first round leader in the Citibank junior and sub-junior open golf championship at the Coimbatore Golf Club course on Tuesday.

The Delhi youngster had a one-under 35 for the first nine, with birdies on the fourth and ninth, however, a three-putt on the 11th and poor tee shot on the 16th left him with a two over 38 for the back nine. Behind Raj is Pahul Singh Kingra of Delhi Golf Club, who carded six over 78.

Rohit Singh, son of the oldest Indian professional Rohtas Singh, shot a par 36 for the first nine, but had a dismal seven over 43 for the back nine to end the day tied with A. Mohan from Rajhmundry at seven over 79.

Category B (13-15 years) saw Madhav Soi of Delhi coming in with a seven over 79 to head the group. Akash Vats was two strokes behind at nine over 81, while Udayan Mane of Bangalore and Parthasarathi Trivedi of Kolkata stood joint third one stroke behind Akash.

In category C (11-13 years), Bangalore boy Khalin Joshi enjoyed an 11-stroke lead with a 10 over 82. Chikka Rangappa of Bangalore at 93 and Hemendra Choudhary of Jaipur at 94 grabbed the next two places respectively.
