Heat wave claims 10 lives in State

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The heat wave conditions prevailing in Andhra Pradesh in the past few days, particularly the Telangana region, have claimed at least 10 lives in different districts. The Commissioner for Disaster Management, Asutosh Mishra, ruled out payment of ex gratia to their families under the Apathbandhu scheme since the insurance company operating the scheme did not consider sunstroke deaths to be ``accidents.'' Day temperatures rose suddenly in all the three regions of the State by 4 to 5 degrees C above the normal level, making life miserable at a number of places. Hanamkonda in Warangal district was the hottest place on Tuesday when it recorded a day temperature of 47 degrees C. Nizamabad and Rentachintala followed closely with 46 degrees C. Several towns reported day temperatures of above 40 degrees C.
