CHITRADURGA: Narayanaswamy, chief executive officer of the Chitradurga Zilla Panchayat, on Tuesday directed the implementing officers at the taluk and district levels to make extensive visits to villages and solve the problems of the villagers on the spot. Participating in a review meeting of the Karnataka Development Programme here, he instructed the implementing officers to submit their official records every month to the Government and urged them to respond to the villagers' woes. Stating that at present 147 milk producers' cooperative societies functioned in the region, he called for increasing milk production in the district. Presiding over the meeting, Girija Pujari Ningappa, president of the zilla panchayat, expressed concern over the erratic power supply in rural areas. She urged the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company authorities to supply uninterrupted quality power at least for the duration stipulated by the Government. Referring to last year's experience when thousands of farmers lost their onion crop due to supply of spurious seeds, Mr. Narayanaswamy directed the Horticulture Department to take precautionary measures to prevent the sale of spurious seeds. He asked the officers concerned to file criminal cases against those found selling such seeds. Expressing discontent over the performance of the Block Education Officer in Challakere taluk, he stressed the need for schooling of children in rural areas and urged the authorities to ensure sthat children did not drop out of school. K.P. Nandeesh, Deputy Secretary; B.K. Manjunath, chief planning officer; and other officers participated.
