VELLORE: In all 279 unorganised workers were arrested when they tried to block roads in different parts of Vellore district on Tuesday, as part of a State-wide agitation organised by the Centre for Indian Trade Unions to press the demands. The demands included constitution of separate welfare boards for various categories of the unorganised workers, provision of pension to all workers and introduction of Provident Fund and Employees' State Insurance (ESI) schemes. They were released in the evening.
