Lara rested for first one-dayer

KINGSTOWN (ST. VINCENT): Brian Lara will be rested for the first one-day international against Pakistan on Wednesday, and replaced in the West Indies squad by Ryan Hinds.

Lara was West Indies' most experienced batsman, having scored more than 9,350 runs in 256 ODIs, but he totalled only 74 for an average under 14 in the just concluded five-match series whitewash to South Africa.

Lara did not arrive with West Indies in St. Vincent on Monday, and manager Tony Howard believed the former captain's absence would have little effect.

The West Indies also recalled fast bowler Pedro Collins for his younger brother, Fidel Edwards, who took no wickets in the two matches last weekend in Trinidad.

Meanwhile, Pakistan manager Salim Altaf believed the West Indies was still dangerous, even after South Africa completed an unbeaten Caribbean tour.
