CHITTOOR: Timely supply of quality seed and fertilizers will enable farmers increase their productivity and get good profit, according to S.S. Rawat, district Collector. He was addressing the dealers of fertilizers, seed and pesticides and agricultural officers at a seminar jointly organised by Atma and Agriculture Department here on Tuesday. He said dealers and farmers must have sufficient awareness about the Quality Control Act and any dealer deviating from the Act and selling inferior products was liable for punishment under the Essential Commodities Act he warned. The Joint Collector, G. Rajendra Prasad, was also present. A conference would be held with representatives of fertilizer companies to discuss about the shortage in supply. The Joint Director of Agriculture Rushendra Nath, told dealers that they should obtain a licence from the Joint Director, Agriculture.

They should also display on a board in front of their shops, the stock of fertilizers and seed available and their price. They should also issue bills to the purchaser duly obtaining their signatures on it. Rajasekhar Naidu, Project Director, said dealers did not have sufficient knowledge on the latest agricultural developments to educate farmers. As such to improve their knowledge, a diploma in agriculture extension services for input dealers was being conducted for the first time in Ranga Reddy district in the State.
