NEW DELHI: In her first statement on the latest political developments in Kerala, the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, on Tuesday said the damage caused to the party with the exit of the veteran Congress leader K. Karunakaran was limited in comparison to the harm he had done from within. Fielding questions on Kerala at a high tea hosted by her to mark the first anniversary of the United Progressive Alliance Government, Ms. Gandhi's response to a question on the damage caused to the party by Mr. Karunakaran's departure was: "I think there was a great deal of damage when he was inside. I think things will be better now.'' Elaborating, the Congress president said the State unit would now be able to hold organisational elections, rallies and other party activities.
