Ex-administrator of CSI Mission Hospital dead

KOZHIKODE: AJ Hermon, former District Governor of Y's Men's International and former Malabar district president of CSI, died at his residence in Eranhipalam on Tuesday. He was 76. He had also served as member of the Diocesan Council; member of Catholic Pastorate Committee; manager of Malabar Christian College, Kozhikode and administrator, CSI Mission Hospital- Codacal, Tirur.

Dr. Hermon is survived by his wife and three daughters. The funeral service will begin at his residence at 7.30 a.m. on Wednesday. It will be followed by a special service at CSI cathedral at 8 am, Vinod Allen, Pastor-CSI Church, said on Tuesday. — Special Correspondent

KASARAGOD: The district unit of the National Congress (Indira) is organising a reception for its president, K. Muraleedharan, who is visiting the district at Kalikadavu on May 23. PALAKKAD: The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha will launch a march from Plachimadato Parassinikkadavu on Wednesday. ALIP meeting today

KOCHI: The first meeting of the Asian Initiative on Legal Pluralism (ALIP) will be held here from Wednesday. ALIP is holding the meeting in association with the Cochin University of Science and Technology and Max Plank Institute for Social Anthropology, Germany. The focal theme of the meeting is natural resource conflicts and resource governance in Asia. V.P. Lok Ayukta warning

Thiruvananthapuram: The Lok Ayukta would initiate legal proceedings against public men who fail to submit their statement of assets as on March 31, 2005 before June 30. Public men as defined under the Kerala Lok Ayukta Act are required to file statement of assets once in two years in the prescribed form. The statement should be submitted to the Registrar, Kerala Lok Ayukta, Legislature Complex, Vikas Bhavan P.O. Thiruvananthapuram - 695033 before the stipulated dates, an official statement said. - Special Correspondent

Awards for the physically challenged

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government has announced its annual awards for employees who had, despite being handicapped by blindness or physical disabilities, performed their duties with exemplary dedication during the year 2004.

The awards in the category of the visually impaired were given to A. Harikumar (peon at the Office of the Regional Assistant Director, Social Welfare Department) and K. Somarajan (teacher at the Government Higher Secondary School, Ayithara, Membaram).

The awards for the visually impaired working in the private sector have been bagged by N.K. Mohammed Mustafa (Arabian Communications, Tirurangadi) and T.D. Raphael (Village Library, Panachukadu, Vallarpadam). The awards for employees with physical disabilities have been given to V.M. Devidasan (Muthedathukavu Coir Cooperative Society, T.V. Puram) and R. Selvaraj (Kerala Components Employees Cooperative Society, K.R. Puram). — Special Correspondent

Sanchar awards presented

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Governor, R.L. Bhatia, on Tuesday gave away the Vishisht Sanchar Padak and Sanchar Shree awards to selected employees of the BSNL, Kerala circle, on the occasion of the World Telecommunication Day celebrations held here.

The Vishisht Sanchar Seva Padak award was given to the junior telecom officer, Kozhikode SSA, K. Balachandran; the sub-divisional engineer, Kannur SSA, M.T. Vijayan, and the Deputy General Manger (planning) Thrissur SSA, K. Francis Jacob.

The Chief General Manager BSNL, Kerala Circle, S.A. Thomas presided over the function.— Staff Reporter
