Congress campaign against Naidu flayed

Special Correspondent

It's YSR who is a factionalist, say party MLAs

HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Legislature Party has taken exception to the Congress Legislature Party describing the Leader of the Opposition, N. Chandrababu Naidu, as a factionalist and challenged the CLP to prove the charge.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, E. Dayakar Rao, secretary of the TDLP, and other legislators -- K. Harishwar Reddy, R. P. Banjdeo and V. Narender Reddy -- said unlike the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who himself used to say he had 22 cases against him, most of them filed by Congress Governments in the past, there was not a single case pending against Mr. Naidu.

Ready for debate

They said apart from these cases, Dr. Reddy was described as a factionalist by his own party leaders like the Panchayat Raj Minister, J. C. Diwakar Reddy. Another former Chief Minister, N. Janardhan Reddy, had made similar charges against Dr. Reddy.

"We are prepared for a public debate on who is a factionalist and who is not. Dr. Reddy's factionalist streak continues even now as reflected in the murder of the TDP legislator, Paritala Ravi and 55 TDP workers during the last one year of his rule," they added.

They said they were amused by Dr. Reddy's claim that the TDP was falsely taking credit for the success of the DWCRA movement.

They said it was universally known that the scheme became a big hit during TDP rule, as Mr. Naidu gave it a boost.

They ridiculed the Government's claim that it had successfully completed six lakh houses for weaker sections during the last one year.
