Tension over Gurumandiram demolition

Staff Reporter

Police posted at Mothiravayal

PATHANAMTHITTA: A strong police picket has been posted at Mothiravayal near Ranni from Monday night following the demolition of a Gurumandiram there.

According to the police, there was a dispute between the local RSS workers and the Gurumandiram administrators over holding the RSS sakha (drill) on the Gurumandiram premises.

The police bomb squad and fingerprint experts inspected the spot on Tuesday.

The District Superintendent of Police, T.P. Rajagopal, visited the spot.

The SNDP Yogam Devaswom secretary, M.B. Sreekumar, and the district leader P.G. Anandan demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.

Meanwhile, a group of people owing allegiance to the RSS laid siege to the Ranni police station on Monday night, when the police took an RSS supporter into custody. However, he was released, later.

RSS denies charge

In a statement here on Tuesday, the RSS Sabarigiri district unit denied any role in the incident.

The statement also alleged that the attack on the Gurumandiram and the charges levelled against the RSS were aimed at sabotaging the ongoing Hindu unity move initiated by the SNDP Yogam and the Nair Service Society.
