`New BJP executive to be announced this month'

Staff Correspondent

Party for maintaining direct contact with people

BHOPAL: The new president of the Madhya Pradesh unit of Bharatiya Janata Party, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, said here on Tuesday that it is necessary to make the young generation committed to ideals and ideology.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters here after taking over as the new State party president, he said that during its silver jubilee year BJP's three-point charter in Madhya Pradesh would be to spread out in the villages and work for the poor and the young.

Mr. Chauhan said that the new State BJP executive would be announced before the end of this month. The elected representatives, including State Ministers were being asked to maintain direct contact with the people, he said adding that the ruling party organisation in Madhya Pradesh would be playing the role of making the people aware of all the work being done by the BJP-led Government in the State.

Mr. Chauhan briefed journalists about his "modest" beginning as a student leader in Bhopal and how he had joined the Chief Minister, Babulal Gaur's election campaign three decades ago. Mr. Gaur, who was seated by his side, was prompt in saying that was in the year 1974.

Asked whether the demand from some sections within the State BJP for setting up a coordination committee that could act as a bridge between the State Government and the ruling party organization would be met, Mr. Chauhan said everything would be done under the party constitution while emphasising that there would be no dearth of coordination between him and senior leaders like Mr. Gaur and the outgoing State party President, Kailash Joshi.

Mr. Joshi, who has now been made the State party in-charge, was also present at the press conference.

He said that the BJP wants young leadership to emerge within the party and they would be launching a special membership drive for those in the age group of 18 to 25. The upper age limit of 35 years would also be strictly adhered to when it comes to the post of the Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha, he asserted. Mr. Chauhan said that Mr. Gaur is carrying forward the developmental activities that were started by the former Chief Minister, Uma Bharti.
