PRATAPGARH: A panchayat in Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh has ordered an alleged rapist to marry the victim, a 14-year-old girl. Police have stepped up security around Takia village in the district but said they were at a loss to take any direct action since an FIR had not been filed. Issuing the diktat, the panchayat yesterday asked Munir to marry the minor and also directed that their fathers be called from Mumbai and Saudi Arabia for making the marriage arrangements. Munir, along with a cousin, had allegedly lured the girl to his house and raped her on Sunday when the rest of the family had gone to attend a function, sources said. - PTI
