Driver assaulted, robbed of cash

BANGALORE: Two men assaulted Venkatesh, a van driver, at Kasturbanagar on Mysore Raod on Monday and robbed him of around Rs. 3,000 in cash.

The police said Venkatesh of Chelur in Gubbi taluk of Tumkur district had come to the city with his ailing father, Thimmayya, and admitted him to Minto Eye Hospital for treatment.

Man dies

A man died after consuming arrack in Thittahalli on Kanakapura Road.

The police said Muniramaiah (48), a beggar, came home drunk and was found dead in his house in the morning.

The police said a post-mortem was conducted on the spot and the body was later handed over to his relatives.

Complaint lodged

The President of Film Chamber of Commerce, H.D. Gangaraju, has in a complaint with the Vyalikaval Police alleged that miscreants burst one of the tyres of his car on Monday near Cauvery cinema.

He said that he was with Chinne Gowda, a film producer, when one of the wheels suddenly burst.

He has alleged that "unseen" hands were responsible.

But the police said they suspected no foul play and that the tyre might have burst after hitting the median.

However, the wheel is being sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for further examination, the police said.
