BANGALORE: Narayana Children's Hospital, a unit of Narayana Hrudayalaya, was inaugurated here on Tuesday by Azim Premji, Chairman of Wipro Technologies. Mr. Premji also released brochures of the hospital. He appreciated the project, a brain child of Devi Shetty, Chairman of Narayana Children's Hospital, and said: "What the doctors here are accomplishing is far greater than what the software or any other sector is achieving. They deserve much more encouragement." Dr. Shetty said the infant mortality rate in the State is estimated at 52 per 1,000 births, with more than 80 per cent of the women delivering at home. Most of the hospitals are not equipped with pre and postnatal treatment facilities while others are not affordable, he said. Ashley D' Cruz, director of the hospital, said the hospital provides medical care at reasonable prices and also free treatment for the poor.
