NEW DELHI: Various Sikh groups have welcomed the Delhi High Court order sentencing five persons to life imprisonment for killing a man during 1984 anti-Sikh riots but urged the Government for speedy trial of the rest of pending cases. ``We welcome the High Court order even though it was justice delayed. But we urge the Government for speedy trial of rest of the cases... they should all be cleared by the end of this year as the wait has been too long,'' said the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president, Paramjit Singh Sarna. ``We have also urged the Delhi Government not to file an appeal in the court in the case where the court ordered the Government to pay compensation to the victims,'' Mr. Sarna said. The Sikh Forum too welcomed the order but said important compensation issues still remain to be decided. ``No substantial compensation has been paid for loss of earning units, when it is on record that property worth crores was lost in the riots,'' said Wing Commander R S Chatwal of the Forum. ``This aspect of the loss of property should also be looked into and due compensation paid to those who lost their working units and entire factories,'' he said. The All India Riot Victim Relief Committee, said a beginning in the way of getting justice had been made but a big road still lie ahead. ``We urge the Government for speedy trial and justice in all the pending cases,'' the committee said.- PTI
