Aiming big with pint-sized creations

S. Ramu

"I have not done it for the sake of records, but just for fun. However, several visitors are prompting me to give it a try and find a place in record books."

MIRYALAGUDA: It is like any other pair of jeans with five pockets and seven buttons.

Don't write it off with `so what' kind of expression. For the pant is only three centimetres in length, a perfect fit for Lilliputians.

A tailor , Sripadi Venkateswarlu (48), of Mirylaguda in Nalgonda district created the trousers much to the surprise of his colleagues and family members. Interestingly, he drew inspiration from a news report about a foreigner, who created of pair of jeans measuring 340 feet.

"That story prompted me to stitch the smallest pant," Venkateswarlu told The Hindu . Thousands of people visited his `Youngsters Tailors' situated in the Viswanatha Lodge lane in this busy town ever since he put up for display in 2002. "It took me four hours to design and stitch the trousers," he said.

Encouraged by people further, Venkateswarlu also tailored a school uniform measuring a mere 4 centimetres. "The trousers and the uniform were exhibited in a summer fun camp organised by Magic Fun School in April, 2003 at Hyderabad," he said.

Trying for Guinness

He tried to send his creations for an entry into the Limca Book of Records but in vain. "After a mad search, I got their phone number and contacted them.

But they said they would not given an entry for such a small thing," he said. Not the one to be upset, now Venkateswarlu is trying to gain an entry into the Guinness Book of World Records. "I have not done it for the sake of records, but just for fun. However, several visitors are prompting me to give it a try and find a place in record books," Venkateswarlu, who took up tailoring 30 years ago after junior college, said.
