Staff Reporter

Jayaveeran is reportedly involved in several cases of cheating

CHENNAI: The City police on Tuesday claimed that I. Jayaveeran (50), an associate of Adikesavan - accused of cheating several businessmen from around the country -- will turn approver.

Jayaveeran was arrested by police on Wednesday last and was taken into custody for interrogation on Thursday.

Police said that during the interrogation Jayaveeran told the police that he had been working since 1999 for Adikesavan, who has been arrested in connection with several cases of cheating, basically by making people part with money after promising them to get foreign loans.

Fraud

In 1998, Jayaveeran collected Rs. 4.5 lakhs from a few persons by promising them employment at the Chennai Port Trust, police said and added that he had given the money collected later to Adikesavan.

But he was neither able to get employment nor repaid the money to those who gave him.

Police said about four months ago, Jayaveeran cut off his links with Adikesavan. He also informed the police that he had known the number of people who paid money and the amount paid by each one to Adikesavan.

The Central Crime Branch police arrested Adikesavan, a resident of Vyasarpadi, on May 2.

They also received complaints from a businessman from Nasik and a financial consultant from Kolkatta stating that Adikesavan had taken about Rs. 2 crores from them on a promise of getting them loans of Rs. 40 crores.
