TIRUCHI: The Tamil Nadu Circle of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) would establish three main switching centres by July leading to capacity addition of about nine lakh mobile lines.

The new main switching centres would come up at Madurai, Coimbatore and Vellore under fourth phase of expansion.

Another 10 lakh lines would be added to its mobile network capacity in the circle (excluding Chennai) by December, the General Manager (mobile services), BSNL, TN circle, L.Kannan, told mediapersons here on Monday.

The TN Circle, which currently has about 9.10 lakh mobile connections, had targeted to provide about 12 lakh connections during this financial year. About 1,000 additional communication towers would be erected in the circle by July.

This would include about 125 new towers in Tiruchi Secondary Switching Area (SSA). The waiting list of about 17,000 for pre-paid connections in Tiruchi SSA would be cleared by June.

Mr. Kannan said that the BSNL would introduce three new value-added services for its mobile subscribers in the circle shortly.

It would include a `missed call alert system' and value-added voice services for downloading ring tones, songs, jokes, cricket commentary and news headlines.

The value-added voice services would be available from Tuesday while the `missed call alert system' would be available within the next few days. The access code for the voice services would be 12555 and the tariff for the services would be Rs.5 per minute. Automatic SMS messages would be sent to subscribers every 15 minutes who avail the `missed call alert system' by diverting their incoming calls to +9117010.

GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) would be available for pre-paid mobile subscribers in the circle from the end of this month. Currently, the service was available for post-paid subscribers.

The service is currently utilised by about 650 subscribers in the circle.
