TIRUCHI: Several unorganised sector workers affiliated to the Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU) were held in the city and elsewhere in the district after they attempted to picket in support of their demands. Their charter of demands included pension scheme for unorganised sector workers and activating their welfare board. Police sources here said over 500 workers were held in places such as Thiruverambur, Lalgudi, Thottiyam and Manapparai. In the city, over 400 members were taken into custody after they attempted to picket near the Collectorate. The members shouted slogans in support of their demands. Those arrested were all released in the evening, police sources here said.
