New programmes

on AIR

TIRUCHI: In connection with the 67th birth anniversary of All India Radio, Tiruchi, new programmes are being introduced in its FM Channel.

"Indha Neram Iniya Neram" programme being broadcast from 8 a.m. and the "Inraiya Thagaval" would be followed by "Inraiya Paadal" — a film song in connection with the importance of the day.

A new programme "Karuthum Ganamum" would be broadcast from 9.45 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. in which listeners of all districts could air their views on a topic announced for the day and songs related to the topic would be broadcast.

Office-bearers

The office-bearers of the Tamil Nadu Oviyargal Sangam (Artists Association), Tiruchi district, were elected recently. S.L. Pushparaj was elected district president, Sahayaraj district secretary, and K. Saravanan the district treasurer. They were elected at the Sangam's meeting held here recently, presided over by its State president J.P. Krishna.

Woman arrested

The City Prohibition and Enforcement Wing of the police here arrested a 41-year old woman on the charge of possession of illicit arrack. The PEW sleuths seized 32 packets containing illicit arrack from her, identified as Mallika and registered a case.

In another incident, Durai (40) was arrested at Koppu village near Somarasampet on Sunday over a similar offence. Police seized five litres of arrack from his possession. The accused was remanded. The Somarasampet police have registered a case.

Electrocuted

A beeda stall owner here died after he suffered an electric shock while closing the shop late last night. The name of the victim was given as Marimuthu (23). Police sources here said he died on way to the hospital. The Cantonment police have registered a case.

Mettur level

The level at the Mettur reservoir stood at 52.51 feet on Tuesday. The inflow was 818 cusecs, and the discharge 900 cusecs.
