CHENNAI: A day-long dharna was held in front of the State Guest House at Chepauk on Tuesday by the Campaign Committee of Trade Unions in Chennai, against the foreign direct investment policies of the Union Government. Members of trade unions representing the banking, telecom, civil aviation, insurance, defence sectors, State and Central Government organisations, Railways and public sector units took part in the protest. Traders from the Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangangalin Peravai also participated in the protest. A. Bhaskar, convenor of the Campaign Committee presided over by the dharna in which leaders of central trade unions such as the AICCTU, AITUC, CITU, LPF and HMS spoke on the proposed move to use pension funds in the capital market and against the policy allowing foreign investment in the real estate sector.
