THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Sports Minister, Dominic Presentation, has assured to provide employment to the young hockey player Hareesh V.R., who is a member of the State school hockey team. After handing over the first instalment of the donation of Rs.1,000 per month offered by Qatar Airways here on Tuesday morning, Mr. Presentation said he would ensure that Hareesh got a job on successfully completing education. The story of Hareesh, who has been battling against odds in life, was featured in the columns of The Hindu Education Plus. Moved by his plight, a number of people including Qatar Airways came forward with offers of help to Hareesh and his four-member family. A plus-two humanities student of Government Boys' Higher Secondary School here, Hareesh supports his family with the small income he earns from devotees trooping into the Dharma Sastha Temple at Thycaud in return for safe upkeep of their footwear at the small stall that he and his father, M.K. Viswambharan, run just outside the entrance to the temple. The duo manages to earn around Rs. 150 a week and that keeps home fires burning. Jaya Prakash Nair, district sales manager of Qatar Airways, said the company was keen on helping those in distress.
