NEW DELHI: Accusing the Congress of politicising the one-day workshop on "Regulatory Framework for New Building Regulations for Delhi" organised by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi in the Capital on Tuesday, all the BJP Councillors walked out of the programme in protest. The BJP Councillors alleged that the former Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi, Vijai Kapoor, who was supposed to deliver the key-note at the workshop, was "denied permission" by the Congress leaders in the Corporation. Alleging that the Congress-ruled MCD had succumbed to pressure from the senior party functionaries, the Leader of Opposition in the Corporation, Subhash Arya, and senior BJP Councillor, Vijender Gupta, said Mr. Kapoor has also served as Delhi's Chief Secretary, Municipal Commissioner and also the Delhi Development Authority's Chairman, so his contribution in the development of the Capital could not be ignored. He has over four decades of experience in dealing with Delhi's civic problems and his suggestions should be considered, they added. Denying permission to deliver the key-note address at the eleventh hour by yielding to the diktats of their high command, the Congress Councillors have set a wrong precedent and brought politics into a noble cause, the BJP leaders alleged, stating that the Congress was against independent views on reforms in building regulations.
