Verdict on Dara Singh petition likely today

Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa High Court is likely to pronounce on Thursday its orders on a petition by Dara Singh challenging the trial court order awarding him death penalty for the killing of the Australian missionary, Graham Stuart Staines, and his two minor sons in January 1999.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Sujit Burman Roy and Justice Laxmikanta Mohapatra had earlier reserved its orders after hearing arguments on the petitions filed by Dara Singh and other convicts in the case. A Designated CBI court had awarded the death penalty to Dara Singh and life imprisonment to 12 others on September 22, 2003.
