Huge haul of explosives in two districts

Staff Reporter

ADILABAD: The police on Wednesday recovered a large quantity of explosives belonging to the Maoists.

The recovered explosives consist of six landmines, six claymore mines, 31 hand grenade shells, 24 detonators, two 12 bore rounds and four bullets of 8 mm rifle, besides wire bundles and an explosive filling device.

Displaying the dump at a press conference here, the Adilabad Superintendent of Police, Kripanand Tripathi Ujela, said in the first instance, the landmines were planted in a radius of 200 metres between Devapur and Rallygadpur villages, 10 km from the Devapur police station. Apparently, the mines were meant for targeting the special party police who often take this route. Two of the landmines weighed 15 kg each while three others weighed 10 kg each. They had enough explosive power to kill scores of policemen.

The Kadam police found 19 hand grenade shells in the Kalleda forest area between Kalleda and Yerragunta villages.

The explosives belonged to the Mangi and Indervelli dalams respectively.

Two dumps unearthed

Staff Reporter in Cuddapah writes: The special party police seized a claymore mine, six tiffin box bombs, 70 gelatin sticks, 29 electric detonators, 33 non-electric detonators and five kitbags from two dumps of the CPI (Maoist) in the Palakonda forest in the Rayachoti area, the Superintendent of Police, V.C. Sajjanar, said.

The special party unearthed the dumps during intensive combing operations on May 16 and 17, the SP told a press conference.

A grenade ignition set, eight metres of safety fuse wire, an electric wire bundle, utensils and some revolutionary literature were also seized.
