Rs. 4,962 cr. ST demand on GAIL quashed
CHENNAI:
The Gujarat Sales Tax Tribunal, Ahmedabad, has set aside sales tax demand of Rs. 4,962 crores on GAIL. The order passed on Monday has upheld the stand of GAIL that transportation of natural gas by GAIL from Gujarat to other states amounts to `stock transfer' and not `inter-state sale'. The tribunal, to which the case was earlier remitted by the Supreme Court, ordered the authorities to make regular assessment under section 41 of the Gujarat Sales Tax Act, considering the transfer of gas from Gujarat to other states as stock transfer, says a company release.
