MUMBAI: Shobhan Mehta alias Shobhan Kalachowkie, cricket bookie and one of the main suspects in the match fixing scandal, was arrested on Tuesday. A local court on Wednesday remanded him to police custody till May 21. The Mumbai Police Crime Branch got to know of an illegal telephone exchange run by Mehta on Grant Road in Central Mumbai, allegedly used by bookies to make calls to Dubai and Pakistan. Acting on the information given by Nemichand Jain, another bookie who was arrested earlier, the police proceeded to arrest Mehta. He applied for anticipatory bail in the sessions court but it was rejected after the investigating team submitted that they needed to interrogate Mehta in custody.
