KOCHI: A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Wednesday directed the Government to file an affidavit explaining the steps taken by it to implement a High Court directive for maintaining discipline on government college campuses. The Bench, comprising Justice K.S. Radhakrishnan and Justice K. Padmanabhan Nair, said the affidavit should be filed within two weeks. The direction was given when a contempt of court petition filed by the Council of Principals of Colleges and others against the Government came up before the Bench. According to the Council, universities are not implementing the directives issued for maintaining discipline on campuses. The Court had earlier upheld the right of the management to prohibit political activities of students' organisations on campuses.
Recall of summons
A petition was filed before the Court challenging the Kozhikode Vigilance Court's order recalling the summons issued to the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, in the case relating to the demand of bribe for sanctioning a B.Ed. college.
Notice to MP
Justice K. Balakrishnan Nair issued notice to the Indian Union Muslim League MP P.V. Abdul Wahab on a writ petition challenging the inclusion of Mr. Wahab in the voters' list of Nilamboor constituency.
Appointments stayed
A Bench comprising the Chief Justice, Rajiv Gupta, and Justice K.S. Radhakrishnan stayed further appointment in the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation-owned Sree Chitra Tirunal College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, for a month. The petition was filed by Sathyavan Kottarakara, general convener, Vidyabhyasa Suraksha Samiti.
