Anantapur
Staff Reporter
ANANTAPUR: The Anantapur district administration has taken the initiative to hone the skills of eligible youth and help them join the Indian Army. The first-ever army recruitment rally in the district will be held in the first week of July. The administration is aiming at pushing as many youth as possible into the army as it will tackle unemployment problem to some extent, prevent youth from turning to anti-social activities and extremism and also provide them with an opportunity to serve the country. The Army Regiment, Chennai, and the Branch Recruitment Office, Guntur, will conduct the recruitment rally.
Selections
The district machinery has chalked a programme to identify the youth eligible for recruitment in the army and polish their physical abilities as well as other skills by giving them a four-week residential coaching free. The selection of candidates for residential coaching camps will be done with the help of a preliminary screening test to be held at nine places on May 22. According to the officials, preliminary screening for selection of candidates for coaching camps will be held at the Government Junior College grounds and Arts College grounds at Anantapur, SJP High School grounds at Guntakal, Government Junior College grounds at Tadipatri, Kalyanadurg, Penukonda and Madakasira, Government Boys High School grounds at Dharmavaram, Government Girls Junior College grounds at Kadiri and MGM High School grounds at Hindupur. The District Collector, Y.V. Anuradha, has cautioned the youth against falling into the trap of middlemen as selection of candidates for army recruitment will be done purely on merit and without any cost. Recruitment of soldiers will be done in the categories of general duty, technical, clerk, keeper technical, nursing assistant and tradesman. Besides, youth will also be selected as havaldar (education), teacher, JCO (catering) and surveyor and automated cartographer. The administration has also taken up a massive publicity campaign on the army recruitment rally in rural areas with the help of wall posters, pamphlets, brochures and handouts.
