Nana Patekar to approach court for bail

MUMBAI: In keeping with a Bombay High Court directive, actor Nana Patekar, facing allegations of threatening a businessman with a gun, said on Wednesday he would move the Sessions court tomorrow to seek anticipatory bail.

Patekar had earlier moved the High Court seeking anticipatory bail in the case registered against him for allegedly threatening a businessman near Vashi on May 12.

However, the High Court directed him to approach the sessions court while restraining the police from arresting the actor for a week and asking him to appear before the concerned police station in the meantime.

Reacting to allegations of him of brandishing a gun and threatening the businessman, Patekar denied that he was carrying a gun.

"I was on my way to Pune to scout a location for a film when I found that the car belonging to the businessman had zeroed in near me on six or seven occasions. While on the Vashi bridge, the car moved near my vehicle so dangerously close that I could have been pushed off the bridge,'' he said.

``It was only after watching the dangerous moves of the car on several occasions, that I finally decided to get off at the toll office and find out why my car was being chased so dangerously,'' he said.

``I was not carrying my gun so there is no question of brandishing it. I do not know why all these stories are being made up. I do not know what is the motive behind all this,'' he said. -- PTI
