Mayne case: CBI counsel examines nine witnesses
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI:
: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) counsel, Geetha Ramaseshan, has been appointed Special Public Prosecutor to handle the `Robin Mayne case,' in which the Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker, K. Kalimuthu, has been arraigned as an accused. After assuming charge on May 16, Ms. Ramaseshan examined nine witnesses on May 16 and 17. Though the examination of witnesses was to continue on Wednesday, trial could not be continued as the Principal Special Judge for CBI Cases, T. Ravindran, was on leave.
The matter has been posted to May 24 for further hearing.
According to the prosecution, Mr. Kalimuthu, when he was Agriculture Minister in the MGR Cabinet, conspired with 31 others between March 1983 and June 1984 to commit cheating by impersonation, forgery and falsification of accounts. He is the 24th accused in the case.
