Youth held on murder charge

TUTICORN: Chandanaraj, 35, was arrested today on the charge of murdering Kadarkarai (35) at Eppothumvendran last night.

Police said he had an illicit affair with the wife of the deceased.

So, Kadarkarai sent his wife to her parents' house. This action provoked Chandanaraj to kill Kadarkarai with a sickle.

Assault case

The police are on the look out for Murugan, who had assaulted a 23-year-old youth at Kovilpatti last night.

Sources said Samuthiraraj was said to have developed an illicit relationship with Murugan's wife so that the accused attacked him with a knife.

The complainant sustained injuries on his left hand and was admitted at Kovilpatti Government Hospital for treatment.

Cases against seven

The police have registered cases against Sivalingam and six others for assaulting Gnanaraj at Karunkalipatti near here on Tuesday.

Police said Gnanaraj assaulted Sivalingam recently presuming that his daughter eloped with Karuppasamy because of the help extended by Sivalingam.

In retaliation, Sivalingam attacked Gnanaraj with an iron rod along with six others.

Gnanaraj suffered injuries in the attack and was admitted to Sattur Government Hospital.

The Nalatinpudur police have taken up case.

Held for abusing woman

The Kazhugamalai police arrested Siva (19) for barging into a house and abusing a woman.

According to police, the accused trespassed into Karuppasamy's house due to previous enmity and abused his wife with filthy words.

He also damaged household articles worth Rs. 1,000 kept in the house.

Based on a complaint filed by Guruvammal, wife of Karuppasamy, he was arrested.

Girl missing

A 15-year-old girl studying at Subaiah Vidyalaya School here was missing.

Based on a complaint lodged by her father Nagalingam (42) on May 18, the police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Ganja seized

The police have seized ganja and poisonous toddy from different places in the district during raids conducted yesterday.

Krishnasamy (60) and Balasubramaniam (22) were taken into custody with 200 gm of ganja while they were moving suspiciously near Vinayakar temple at Kovilpatti.

Meanwhile, Rajapandian was arrested with 10 litres of poisonous toddy from Vilathikulam and Samuel was arrested with one litre of toddy at Seiduganallur.
