Merchant XI on top of table; Manjrekar opens its account

MUMBAI: Vijay Merchant XI led the four-team table with 13 points at the end of two rounds in The Sportstar Trophy 2005 MCA under-19 selection trial tournament, with both matches ending in draws.

Merchant picked up five points by virtue of first innings lead against Dattu Phadkar XI, which is second with 11 points, on the concluding day at Cross Maidan on Thursday.

Merchant, overnight 250 for seven, reached 370 with sizeable contributions from Umesh Bondre (89), Ishaan Mithbaonkar (57) and tailender Rahul Vengsarkar (40).

Left-arm spinner Dhaval Parab took four for 63. Trailing by 141 runs, Phadkar crawled to 154 for six at stumps.

Manjrekar XI, chasing 252 to win in 40 overs, reached 194 for one at stumps.

Opener Naineet Angre scored an unbeaten 56 (8x4) and No. 3 Nitesh Bandekar was not out on 74 (6x4, 4x6).

Earlier, Rangnekar XI, resuming at 183 for three, declared at 368 for eight with the help of tailenders Oninder Singh Gill (53) and Srikant Shinde (51).

Manjrekar opened its account with five, followed by Rangnekar with three.

Khandu Rangnekar XI 140 and 368 for eight decl. (Sagar Pawar 109, Pratik Amin 38, Oninder Singh Gill 53, Srikant Shinde 51) drew with Vijay Manjrekar XI 257 and 194 for one (Naineet Angre 56 n.o., Harshad Bhojnaye 43, Nitesh Bandekar 74 n.o.). Manjrekar five points, Rangnekar three.

Dattu Phadkar XI 229 and 154 for six (Srideep Mangela 36, Pratik Desai 32, Siddharth Chitnis 28, Sagar Udeshi three for 30) drew with Vijay Merchant XI 370 (Aditya Tare 39, Sachin Wagh 46, Umesh Bondre 89, Anand Singh 43, Ishaan Mithbaonkar 57, Rahul Vengsarkar 40, Kabir Hazare three for 49, Dhaval Parab four for 63). Merchant five, Phadkar three.
